Did you get any visits from those ads? I remember someone putting an ad like this in DigitalPoint. He later lamented that a large number of people clicked on the ad and he lost a lot of money :).

The adword "John Cow" likely only costs a penny or so right now. That will change as this site continues to grow.

It is not the keyword that costs. It is putting your ads in a high traffic site like this, that leads to the increased rate.

I do when I am at home. But at work, I have no choice, they only use IE6 and all installation is disabled by admin. It doesn't matter, I gave my notice so I won't be there for long anyway

I don't like ads too much but maybe its a good thing not so many people, but then again that means you don't make as much money either. It's kind of a double edged sword
