John Cow dot COM: Business Goal Setting and the Exercise Bike

  • Mike Huang · 1 year ago
Very very informative post, Cow. You're right on the point where we need to set more realistic goals for ourselves rather than goals that are a cinch. I say a lot of bloggers, marketers, myself, and almost anyone can take this post and put it under consideration.

That is a great way of putting it. It made me laugh because it got me thinking about my goal setting and how I would start with such energy and then get board and give up before I finished.

I have a long-term goal to make my Home Business my primary income into my retirement years. I learned quickly from the beginning it's not going to happen over night like those hyped-up splash pages promise, and you need to dig your heels in and prepare yourself for the long haul. Take Blogging, for example, authors who are faithful and generating new articles that interest people are eventually going to benefit, if not directly, indirectly to what opportunity they are involved in. However, after a month and finally gaining readers then quit like a lot of Bloggers out there, it's a lot of hard work and energy wasted.

I couldn't agree with you more, John.

So many people run in to business and other aspects of their life without understanding where they want to run to. As much as I admire their motivation, I cringe when I see it happen. I've done it. I've been there. I'm run in to so many things without knowing where the finish line was, and I've regretted every moment of it.

Define your goals, and define a path to lead you to those goals. You wouldn't set yourself a goal of running 26 miles in a marathon without knowing where you were going to run to reach that goal, so don't do it in business.

One of the best quotes that ever came out of Muhammed Ali's mouth is, "What counts in the ring is what you can do after you’re exhausted. The same is true of life." The same is true in life, and the same is true in business. It's what you do after you hit the wall that really counts.

Sounds a lot like my marathon post. Something else I pointed out: it's a lot easier to accomplish your goals when you have a workout partner, or coach, to be held accountable to.
