I personally think the MEW is a great idea, this is why a bought a page (an no i am not affiliated with it in any way, before you ask).
Hmmm.. I guess it pays to stir up trouble. *L*
It's a new low even for someone who's whole attraction is them plagiarising someone else.
And do you complain to Yahoo, MSN, Google and all the other search engines that they completely ripped off someone elses idea?
We're not competing with the MDW since there can only be one page owner per word. They aren't sufffering from us being here.
Oh, and please do tell who we paid for fake reviews? We'd love to know who we owe money to.
It's frustrating trying to get through to people like you.
All the popular mooney making blogs get them
What other reason could there possibly be?
as for the idiot asking about PR, how the hell do you think any site that is a week old will get PR?? the PR will prolly not come around till the next update.
and for only one page being indexed, that's still kinda a big deal considering the fact that most sites get sandboxed for a long time.
hey cow any chance of getting a affiliate code without buying?
You can't be an affiliate if you don't even have the product yourself!
You're milking your readers (excuse the pun) who come to you to learn, not be ripped-off. The proof is in the Google results, as several people obviously agree with me.
*edit* rephrased our opinions.
+ Every single paid-link site/business started somewhere. If one happens to think that a link is too costly or would otherwise fail to provide decent Return on Investment (ROI), that's their decision to make.
+ The idea that John Chow promotes things with ulterior motives, namely his own profit, is not a new one. JC has never minced words regarding his profit motives. I think that's a good portion of the reason so many people hang on his every word -- the money he's making (and bragging about). Whether or not you respect him more or less for a given program he mentions is irrelevant. He's gonna do it and always has.
+ MillionEuroWiki IS a young site. If you believe it's going to be big, then the price per page right now is probably a bargain. If you believe that this JohnCow guy (and the brain behind the online persona) isn't capable of promoting MEW to the point where the current price is a bargain, then don't buy a page. Pretty simple. I would point out that you're reading this comment, however. What was that about the Cow's promotional skills?
+ I happen to know, from personal experience, that The Milker accepts constructive criticism pretty well. So for the conversation to degrade to pejoratives means that someone could have probably framed their criticisms better. I'm pretty sure whatever points were trying to be made have long since been lost.
That being said, I would personally be interested in hearing/reading any criticisms in a rational fashion... it might help MEW become a better product, and it would be useful to all of us as an exercise in determining ROI for paid links.
I agree with Lewis here.
I still think the MEW is a waste of time and the Cow is milking his readers for short term gain.
I would love to hear from other MEW buyers who are doing well off their pages (besides John Chow (although he has been quiet enough on this) and CashQuests).
I know it's early days and I hope you make your returns in the long run but can you provide any stats to date?
Is it really worth spending $100 on a PR0 site? Or do you think it would be better waiting until the site has some ranking atleast?
Obviously a lot of users will jump on the bandwagon now that Cow has opened up the affiliate deal to those who buy pages, although any affiliate deal I have ever signed up to before has never required that I buy into the deal first, sounds like the Cow is covering his ass here...Mubin, you are right here to look for an affiliate code without buying in yourself and in some ways I hope you get it, in other ways I hope you don't as you could also start to convince your readers into buying into a silly concept.
So, can we have real stats on the MEW, not AWStats that count every creeper, crawler, bot, ass and so on?
Is anyone actually viewing the pages that hasn't already bought a page and is anyone really making any profits from their page?
Are these pages being found in search engines and if they are what % of those that find the page take a paid for wiki seriously and click your links convert to buyers?
I'm sorry to say that while I still enjoy reading the Cows site that I still think he is milking those who are new to making money online with this one, but I would love to be proven wrong.
And for those complaining that it doesn't have PR yet - maybe that's why you can buy one for $90 - it will be worth more once it has PR! Kind of like...investing....heard of that before?
As for your PR argument, how many links have you bought on PR0 sites for $90 that you consider an investment?
A lifetime *link* for $90 could be great value. CashQuests.com is PR0 and I could definitely charge hundreds (maybe thousands) for a lifetime link. ....and on the MEW you get a *page* and the owner is going to use the money to promote the site. I really think you've missing the fact that you've got the page *forever*
But the PR argument is null, no new site will have a PR until at least 1 pr update goes by. but the point of these wikis is not really pr, its the idea. I mean think about it MDW does not have PR yet, but it will, and so will this one.
As for the other argument regarding traffic, that is something that will increase with more buyers, because they will link to their own page and that will in turn lead to some traffic dribbling to the main page an d the other pages.
WHY THE HELL AM I WRITING ALL THIS WITHOUT A AFFILIATE CODE DAMMIT!
but maybe the PR update has gone by and the MEW has been left with a PR0 for some reason (spam)...maybe it hasn't, we won't know until it increases as it is at a 0 now.
I still don't see this argument as null though...
Also, as for the traffic argument, I agree that the traffic will increase with more buyers, but are these buyers really your intended audience?
Surely they are others that have bougth other pages and are hoping for the best?
They are not users who have found your page through the usual search methods and are interested in what you are trying to sell them.
CashQuests: the site has been registered for 1YEAR! not 20, not a life time, but 1 year! get over it, it is not a lifetime link unless it works for the Cow and the Cow continues to register it for his lifetime and I can only imagine that happening if he makes his money each and every year, not just this year!
To illustrate your stupidity - what if the Microsoft office lease expired next month. Would you uninstall every Microsoft application because you didn't think you were going to get any more support or updates?
You are truly a time waster. While you're picking apart every tiny detail and losing your advertising space on this site - my page is making money. Don't expect any more responses from me to you on this issue.
Why would I expect any more when you don't answer questions put to you on your own blog? and your posts clearly indicate that you are promoting this product because of your own commissions although they do not seem to be as high as others or as high as you would expect to get?
As for your argument about the code:
The Cow did not create it, he copied it! and it is freely available to anyone who wants it, so fair play to him if he can make a profit out of it.
But, To illustrate your stupidity (as you put it!) microsoft did loose atleast one of their major websites, look back to the millenium for evidence when they were shut down and had to pay big bucks to get back online as soon as they realised what was happening.
Besides that, we are not talking about microsoft here, where does the comaprison come from?|
If the MEW had a long term plan, surely it would be registered for more than 1 year, have you ever seen a proper business plan??
I do not see myself as a time waster, but if you see someone who points out the flaws in what he sees as a stupid idea as a time waster, that is up to you.
Maybe you would be better off listening to the criticism and working on it rather than jumping into stupid arguments.
As for me loosing advertising space on this blog, I lost nothing, I got 66 clicks from that ad I displayed over 10 days, that is 6.6 clicks a day if you can't work it out.
I have worked in internet marketing for over 10 years and the reason I cancelled the ad was nothing to do with the click count, but was to do with the recent ethics of what is being promoted on this site.
I don't find those millionaire wiki pages productive for any purpose so I don't visit those type of sites. It's that easy. I come visit this page because I get entertained. The End.
Please get ur acts right ... its all interent marketing .... U think all the top bloggers are CLEAN?? LOL
I know this from recent personal experiences from going on a "reality show."
The haters expressing their opinion are for the birds and you shouldn't let them affect your vision. Let the freaking caterpillar turn into a butterfly and tell the ones who want to bring you down to piss off. Good luck with this!
-The site is very young. Stop pretending to doubt the PR being a 0 due to the site's contents. Even this blog is still a PR0 after 3 months.
-We never showed MEW stats except for the publicly accessible Alexa stats.
-All our domains are registered for 1 year, all on auto-renewal. Why would we spend a ton of money all at once and pay 20 years in advance? That's just silly.
-As for the code, you're wrong again. You can't just copy it freely because a large part has been custom coded. We paid good money to get this setup like it is.
-And you did not cancel the ad. We did, remember? It had nothing to do with ethics, we just don't like the way you act. Putting doubt in peoples minds with twisted facts, wordplay and assumptions all the time. You've become a persona non grata because you can't play nice.
We're puzzled why we keep having to "defend" ourselves from your false accusations and twisted facts.
Just one question remains: Is this entertainment to you?
Congrats, you've just been promoted to most famous cow reader!
greetings from elgUU
Is different
Hmm.. Let me think this over..
please read over your posts. You offered a refund & I accepted, I actually asked for it in the end.
as for your other comments, see below.
-We never showed MEW stats except for the publicly accessible Alexa stats.
fair enough, why not show proper tracking stats now?
-All our domains are registered for 1 year, all on auto-renewal. Why would we spend a ton of money all at once and pay 20 years in advance? That’s just silly.
In my experience, domains cost more if you register them year by year, If you are serious about an idea, why opt for the more costly option?
-As for the code, you’re wrong again. You can’t just copy it freely because a large part has been custom coded. We paid good money to get this setup like it is.
In my own opinion, if you paid to get the MEW to look like it is now, you wasted your money, but that is just my opinion, not something to bitch about...
-Putting doubt in peoples minds with twisted facts, wordplay and assumptions all the time. You’ve become a persona non grata because you can’t play nice.
What twisted facts have I brought up? & as for not playing nice??? are we all expected to lick up your cow dung because we read your blog? or are we entitled to our own objective opinions?
-We’re puzzled why we keep having to “defend” ourselves from your false accusations and twisted facts.
again, what false accusations are you talking about?
-Just one question remains: Is this entertainment to you?
Yep, it is, seeing anyone trying to dupe their readers is entertainment....
And, p.s. delighted to see Laura onboard here, Laura, you are hot!
As for propertyireland, I think he is now just rephrasing your answers to raise more doubt, I have lost my respect for him, his first round of questions were reasonable in the way that they looked like genuine concerns.
Now it seems he is just spiteful.
PropertyIreland- you are sweet, to me atleast, so thank you!
Angel- I'm not sure if people here are following the show, but I have a feeling a few prolly just went to check it out cause of the comments ;)
As for $100 being expensive...that's a relative point of view. If you don't make enough for $100 to be considered an investment then you shouldn't be doing anything on the internet. I bet loads of people spend $100 a month on lattes at Starbucks. So it's all perspective. If you don't think it's a good investment, then don't buy it. It doesn't give you the right to slander and libel. In fact, if I were JC I would be discussing things with a lawyer because you haters are potentially damaging his business by spreading rumors and lies.
Personally, it was a great investment. It paid off for me after the 50th page sold...$90 for an iPod Touch. I think JC got the short end of the stick there. Just my .02
Making a successful site does cost ALOT of money. I'd say a large part of Mr Cow's creativeness "IS" unique. He didn't rip off an idea. He's doing what many others have done.. Follow a successful trend and try and improve. I can attest to the cost of making a site successful as we're one of the large sites Mr Cow is advertising on and we're not going to say we're gouging Mr Cow but he does spend ALOT of money to make his ideas bigger and he does care about his projects along with his readerbase. Mr Cow believes in what he's saying and he's some wisdom about him. We've had many lengthy discussions about viability, and seo. He know's his marketing. You cannot butcher a cow for having some brains to go along with the cud and tail.
Million Euro Wiki is as viable a marketing tool as any other traffic site and should not be underlooked as a viable marketing tool for those purchasing the pages. The web is changing. So is marketing.
Thanks for listening to our view.
www.Suckered.Us
Keep up the good work Mr Cow!
1 Million readers per month and 20,000,000 pageviews per month might make us some mooooney :D
Makes me look silly? Who's the idiot who asked if adding yourself to your own personalised Google page would get you a PR 8 link. That's got to be the most stupid idea I've ever heard. Don't you think that if everyone saw the same page it wouldn't be "personalised"?
"Follow a successful trend and try and improve"
Apart from renaming it to Euros, how the hell has he improved it? It's just an even-worse clone of it.
He also set up the nice competition of giving away the itouch, which is a nice way to reward your buyers.
Your site is very weak, thats why you still don't rank, you should have done something about it instead of moaning about the people pointed it out. If you had done your job properly you would be no. 1 for the term by now... it is hardly a copetitive term is it?? But a few weeks later you are still not even on the front page.
The reason you got slated was because you were perceived as a scammer plain and simple.
None of the people who wrote about your site knew each other, or were part of a syndicate... but many reached similar conclusions independently, by consensus.... that MEW was a scam....
I think the people who slated it did know what they were talking about and MEW fully deserved its "aura of negativity"....
Take a piece of your own advice will you.
no fixin' that im afraid
