JohnCow, Right on! I've been trying to fathom just how someone markets within the social networking sites listed in your blog article. I have read a lots of high-powered people like Rich Schefren and others wanting to 'dominate' these social sites, through all kinds of methods. The jury is out on how successfully one can market to a kid on myspace, facebook, twitter etc yes?

Here is the thing, most people don't realize that they sell themselves most of the time for example what do you think you do at a job interview, having a first date?

If more people would just realize people are born sellers, saying that, selling is a skill that has to be honed!!

The AIDA is a great method that has been used in business for years, it really helps in structuring your writing. It focuses upon what your objectives are and will stop you drifting off in your writing into other areas. I find with content that using another acronym helps too KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid! The idea here is to stick to one simple idea for each of your items. If you find yourself drifting into a second topic areas, pull the info out and use it for another item.

Cow - good post there - interesting about the call to action part as I've heard this a couple of times about. Just a question - if you are looking at getting across the board on all of these sites and links to the same think/post a similar article, guessing you'd make the title unique and change roughly 30-40% of the content, or do you change more?

Wow, what are the odds. I just wrote a great article about this on my blog, should definitely inspire those with smaller websites or blogs.
Thing is, yesterday I woke up to see my site had exploded with hits. Amazing numbers. I checked Wordpress Stats to see it was coming from a 3 month old StumbleUpon link.
How did this happen and why yesterday (and its carrying over to today too)? I have no clue. I'm not arguing with this, I'm pretty happy.
I took advantage of this knowledge and added a nice "Stumble It!" button to the bottom of all of my posts. I figured I'd add a Digg It button too, so I had to make my own (so it's match the StumbleUpon image, lol, OCD).
Anyway, nice article. I never thought Digg and StumbleUpon could be useful unless you were already popular to begin with. :wink:

I use digg and stumbleupon all the time, if not for anything but the high value backlinks and when some of my posts get popular all the better.

If you build up your network on digg th possibilities are endless. An article on the front page could sent 25000 visitors your way in one day, even though on the downside, diggs community tends not to be too profitable, but at least you might find a few new readers!

I get some decent traffic from Social Bookmarking sites, but it's not usually sustainable. More like traffic spikes.

Call to action - Get yourself to do it! Write a useful blog post several times per week, use social sites, comment on blogs.You don´t need to work 12 hour days, but just do something and over time you will see fantastic results.
