It is up to the blogger's view, if this can get him/her the readers and visits, why not?
Can I ask which plugin that provides the smilies above the comment editor? Thanks.
The people who watched it, and were disgusted by it, have the same abilities as everyone else. Simply turn over if you don't like what you see.
Some people even complain without watching it, which is the strangest thing.
It's our choice what to watch*, and what not to watch, same as it's our choice what to read and what not to read.
Mxx
* There are limits, of course. You can't simply stick a snuff movie on TV saying 'you have the choice to switch it off' as there are obviously levels of society that shouldn't be met - and there is certainly a difference between free will and creating a public acceptance of what society should allow.
Gotta say that bashing, flaming, whatever you call it is wrong on all accounts but if you truly disagree with someone, even if they are a more famous blogger, I think it's fine. Straight ranting and bitching is not productive and un-welcomed on all levels.
I must admit on some part though, sometimes many things get repeated, either by the same blogger who posted a while back, or the same topic gets covered by multiple bloggers. It is incredibly annoying to come across your RSS reader of say 20 bloggers, 19 (if not all 20) of which will discuss the same subject.
It's nothing to have a cow about (no pun intended), but it's also unnecessary for one blogger to be blogging about the same thing another blogger is blogging about UNLESS there really is something in it (for example: BlogRush; everyone tried to get people in their own network which I can understand). But having most of your bloggers tell you WP v2.3 is out is pointless (this is pure example and not actually the case).
I wish more bloggers would in the same niche would please stop posting the same thing, particularly if you know a popular blog has already covered it. Just give the popular blog credit (unless of course you were first to post the news), and move on. Don't read it off their blog and write it in your own words.
Wow this has got to be my longest comment YET
But then stuff like that is out there every day, and I run into it more often than I would like, so I suppose it's not a funny coincidence at all.
I have a feeling the aforementioned author really was just looking for an excuse to slip a Chow-snipe in there. A chowsnipe. Haha.. I like that word.
I run a site (non-bloggy type thing) that has 11,000 active registered users and a very very active forum. I've actually had people set up sites/blogs for the sole purpose of talking about how much I suck or my site sucks. (Usually these are people I've banned for being boneheads, or people who run similar, but barely popular sites, I've observed.) I bring this up just to say that I've been on both ends. My blogs are new (less than 6 months), so I can see why it's tempting to be jealous of people who are successful, especially when they make it look so easy. But I would say this.. when something is done well, it always looks easy.
Okay, well, I went off there, and I didn't mean to... but you just touched a nerve today as I was already in eye-rolling mode over that article I read this morning.
There will always be those who attack your position, but you have a loyal readership so you can rise above this and let people talk. Talk isn't going to bring you down and it isn't going to affect your readership. How you react to the talk will.
Let people talk.
I never write about a bit-time blogger unless I really have something to say. The big-time bloggers are the leaders in this field, and it's natural to look to them and respond to what they say.
Which articles are you referring to anyway? I hope not mine.
Personally, I believe in looking at a subject from various points of views and to give a balanced account of what you think about a subject (or in this instance, the Cow blog and it's activities).
As long as you are fair in your comments, there will be people (and cows) who will see that your arguments are sound and you will then gain aloyal following.
Having some humor thrown in helps too.
Example: Dealdotcom, we knew it was going to be hot so we blogged about it as soon as we could to get those referrals. Random people read the big blogs first and always sign up under them, hence giving them loads of referrals and in return making the rich richer.
That's what it's about, people wanting a piece of the pie.
If you had offered something of value for a fair price you would have got a positive reaction...
As you mentioned, the big majority of the tabloids around only survive because people want to hear "bad stuff" about celebs and such. It's the same with blogs. Readers are bored, they want entertainment (this kind of readers don't want useful content, really just some spicy entertainment). Give them this entertainment by talking bad about someone (the bigger this someone, the better). They'll love your blog for it. It's easy to understand. Of course that the blogger might also be serving himself a little. Maybe some ego deprived people just feel better when talking bad about others... Don't know.
If you release a product that a lot of people see as a scam designed to empty the pockets of newbies, you are bound to get bad comments posted on blogs.
As soon as you release another product that is considered of good value, I'm sure the same people will be writing about you but in a more positive fashion.
You have to take the good with the bad and isn't any press good anyway?
You write something negative about something - a different set come out against you.
Should you care?
Should you worry?
Whenever I'm getting too concerned about the criticism against me, I just check my Paypal account and feel much better.
The big boohoos will die poor.
I don't hate you or your blog and never referenced this site in my posts.
Your own readers and advertisers (AKA Customers) saw you "trying to empty the pockets of newbies" and called you out on it.
Again, release a value adding product for a fair price and you'll get a good response.
Release a product like that and Ill be happy to give you a glowing review....
What's the point in reading for you if all you see is what you want to see?
So you've just admitted that you are one of these useless boohoos who like to get cheap thrills and attention by bashing others.
Why am I not surprised....?
I am afraid I made an assumption that this post was prompted negative MEW posts written in the last 24 hours or so.
I should know better than to assume such things,
Sorry
I believe the Milk Man. I've seen this on a lot of blogs. We all know why, right? Because all the blogging blogs say that a great way to boost traffic is to cause controversy. Start a feud and watch the visitors stampede to your site!
And no, I don't think it's really about my post.
Let´s give a piece of the pie to everyone!
"Let´s give a piece of the pie to everyone!"
Didn't the communists try that ;-)
Then you are a communist after all
As you said
"Whenever I’m getting too concerned about the criticism against me"
and I have indeed criticized you, I made ... yet another foolish assumption......
I should know better than to assume,
Very Sorry.
However, as you yourself have been very critical of sites and schemes you felt were poor, I don't think the "get cheap thrills from bashing others" remark is very fair.
I don't go out of my way to upset people, and don't want to make enemies out of other bloggers.
Like you I just say it as I see it.. what I wrote was my honest unbiased opinion.
My blog is nothing more than a hobby, it will never make any money, I sometimes go weeks between posts (hence there are no dates to be found on the blog).
I don't really care about attention or traffic on that site.. and I happen to think my criticism of you was fair.
In previous posts I have linked to your site as a source of honest information... which I also thought was fair....
But I think we should be fair in Capitalism!
Take care.
The big boohoos will die poor."
Poor people can still be happy though.
PS- Don't think that just because I disagree with you that I am against you. I'm not. I still love John Cow and Bob Meets World.
