John Cow dot COM: Your Blog, Your Ads, Your Money

• sir jorge · 2 years ago
I'm not sure if I'm completely sold on this concept, but I'll definitely look into it, I think it could be a viable form of ads, and profit, but I don't know. Let's see more proof...
• John Cow · 2 years ago
sir jorge, every penny of ad space you sell goes into your own pockets. How can you not be sold on this concept?
• ryan · 2 years ago
I will be looking into this. I am all for something that can help me manage my advertising easier. I have quite a few blogs in my network as well which might mean a little capital outlay, but if its all automated. Why not!
• sir jorge · 2 years ago
Hmm, i guess when you put it that way, I can't lose. I just need to Hustle.
• 2xKnight · 2 years ago
Geeeez. If it can really do even half of that it'd be worth $37. I finally got my paypal account straightened out, now I can use this to fill it up. *L*
• John Cow · 2 years ago
Ryan, you only have to buy it once. The license grants usage of the system on all your blogs :)
• Simon · 2 years ago
Thanks for the post JC, really appreciated!

There is a "bigger picture" to all this, and it really all depends on the critical mass. There are ad agencies who have already shown an interest in the project at this early stage. They have already said that if we can acquire a big enough blogging audience, and make sure things run smoothly (lots of moving parts behind the scenes), then they will want to come in with some big (repetitive) purchases through the marketplace on high quality inventory.

That doesn't just include direct purchases, but also things like CPC network ads to fill in the gaps automatically (look for the OIOpublisher Labs link at the top of the site, and you'll see a few of the future development plans).

But anyway, if you have any questions or problems, just leave your comments either here or at the site forum, and I'll be there to deal with them throughout tomorrow.
• Mike Huang · 2 years ago
And here I thought this plugin was free...until I read the bottom of the post :(

It might be well worth the $30 or so, but to some of us, that's a lot of money..

Thanks John for recommending this software. I've been looking for something to automate the advertising process and this is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for the shoutout as well.
• Colin Klinkert · 2 years ago
Simon,
As I think I requested when you first released this a few months ago, a little bit more flexibility in terms of being able to design and customize the purchase pages. Is this an option yet?
• Iantrepreneur · 2 years ago
JC,

not a problem - just wanted you to have the ease of not handling the users request - all manual and stuff - just let the plugin do everything for you - dont mind helping out, glad you liked the plugin - cause it definitely kills TLA and reviewmes and all that other fluff
• LittlePiggyBank · 2 years ago
How easy is installation? im looking at buying this but im not the most technical little chappy... ive seen some brief instructions but is there a lot of messing about to get all this set up?!
• Think Like An SOB · 2 years ago
Thanks for that info John. I knew you were using a plugin, and I even checked on a plugin in JCADS - since thats what the link shows when I made purchases from your blog. I later realized that it is just your initials with ads in it.
I will definitely be using that. A lot easier than Openads, which I am currently using.
• Jason Bacchetta · 2 years ago
That's a very nice plugin. I would love to have it, but unfortunately I'm getting ready to spend enough already on advertising for my new blog. Simon, didn't I hear that there was a $20 Christmas special coming up?
• Simon · 2 years ago
@ Mike
I realise that the $37 is going to be out of some people's reach initially. As the Cow would tell you, I was reluctant to put a price tag on it at all. But the time had come where I needed to start building some revenue from the project to help take it to the next level.

@ Colin
Just to let you know, that as you signed up early on, your access to everything remains free (I need to send out an email to that effect later). As for customising the look - the html is now separated into template files (although there is till php within them), and there is a generic css file that governs all purchase pages. I do have someone who is interested in converting them into fully xhtml-strict compliant templates for me, which would make the job easier.

@LittlePiggyBank
I would hope that installation is very straight-forward. All the necessary database adjustments and default settings are added automatically upon activation, and you are given instructions as to what to do if anything needs manual adjustment. The only template edits required would be if you didn't use widgets in the sidebar, everything else is done via the plugin automatically.

If you have any problems with it, I'm usually on hand to help troubleshoot any problems, either via the site forum, or instant messenger.

"Simon, didn’t I hear that there was a $20 Christmas special coming up?"

The laws of supply and demand dictate that if enough people demand it, I may supply well it.
• Ethan · 2 years ago
It's interesting. I appreciate your feedback. Now I have clear picture on secondhand advertising. Generate more best targeted traffic to websites. I learned some tips on how to generate best targeted traffic through online.
• Colin Klinkert · 2 years ago
supply well it? lol

Simon, Congrats on your plugin and I am glad that it is free for me as an early adopter, but I, like many others will happily pay.

I'm creating a new blog that will become my online persona and will promote your plugin there (With my affiliate link  )

Great Job BTW
• ryan · 2 years ago
I am actually quite convinced. I think anyone can make $37 in a week through a variety of ways to get this plugin, I am going to be buying this first thing tomorrow morning.
• Ethan Christ · 2 years ago
So is that where your "Ads Availometer thing came from? Pretty sweet.
• LittlePiggyBank · 2 years ago

Awesome bro..
• Chris Jacobson · 2 years ago
So, let me see if I understand this... you're selling a plugin and a theme in this post?

Interesting...
• Joe · 2 years ago
Hey, this is great John. I might be purchasing it soon... if there is in fact a holiday special! I like the change that you've made to the header!
• Affiliate Confession · 2 years ago
$37 isn't too much for a plugin that allows you to bring on your own advertisers. If you are worried about the cost, you probably don't have enough traffic to be selling advertising directly. One month's worth of ads should more that cover the cost of this plugin.
• Simon · 2 years ago
Colin, you are always welcome to leave a paypal donation if you feel like it at any time. ;)

And don't mock my word order lol, it was late!
• sven · 2 years ago
I will have a look into this, still it feels strange to pay to be able to place ads that will pay me in the end.
• sven · 2 years ago
$37 isn’t too much for a plugin that allows you to bring on your own advertisers. If you are worried about the cost, you probably don’t have enough traffic ....
yeah, that was the point I had in my eye when I thought about this :)
• vhxn.com · 2 years ago
Hi there i also thought this is a free plugin , hey lots of freelancers are giving away for free their plugins , $ 37 it's three much for this plugin
• John Cow · 2 years ago
Free free free, everybody always wants everything to be free, yet they use advertising on their sites to make money. Why don't you give your advertising space away for free? You don't even have to spend numerous hours of hard work in developing and coding a plugin, you can just...give it away for free!

Right, who wants our free banners so they can stick it on their site, for free?
• Simon · 2 years ago
@vhxn
It did indeed start off as free while it was in early development. Now that it is mature, I need to start generating some revenue to build the project. I'm one person, not a corporation, and I don't have a team of developers behind me at the moment.

I very much doubt you will find anything of this quality given away for free. Not to mention the fact it is way more than just a plugin. Check out the groups system, or the marketplace, or the jobs board I'm developing. They are all connected to the plugin, literally, in a way that no one else has done. It will eventually allow us to completely network our blogs, from content, to advertising.

As much as I'd like, I can't offer it all for free for eternity. It is a completely unique approach at this time. (I do need to get going on full documentation now though) - and I'm sure from time to time I will offer some free or discounted purchases, if you keep a look out. :)

• John Cow · 2 years ago

• LittlePiggyBank · 2 years ago
I haven't found any instructions and the forums are all bare!

I do have the computer technical abilities of a fetus though so that won't help.

Just uploaded the files but dont seem to of got anywere yet lol
• Simon · 2 years ago
Look in the docs folder in the plugin for the README.txt file. ;)

If you still have any problems, post on the forum, and if necessary I can email / IM you through it.
• LittlePiggyBank · 2 years ago
Cheers Simon,

Will go take a look at it all now... UK and 1:07am i guess your as mad as me huh?!
• Simon · 2 years ago
I think I'm more in tune with US timezones than British right now, lol.

I'll be spending the next couple of days creating a one-stop documentation and virtual tour system for the site, which should help a lot with questions and install problems.
• Gilberticus · 2 years ago
vhxn, what's with the crappy little attempt to pull traffic to your site by commenting here? I mean, yeah, it'll get some click-thru's, but your blog is just poor grammar about crap chinese gidget merchandise.... Time wasted by Gilberticus. Spare yourselves the trouble.
• Simon · 2 years ago
Just a quick thanks to all those who have helped squash a few minor bugs with the new release over the last couple of days.

If you find one, don't forget to let me know about it through the site forum, or via the contact form. Thanks. :)
• Affiliate Confession · 2 years ago
I have to agree with the Cow here. Dang, all this talk of free, what are you guys running, welfare blogs? I hope you are giving all your advertising revenue to charity.
• Matched · 2 years ago
If you want to earn money by advertising on your website then you should take a look at Matched.co.uk. You enter the details of your website and any pages you wish to have advertisements on. They then match you with advertisers and pay you £3 per advert that you display on your website for a month. You can enter up to 5 websites and 5 pages on each site so potentially you could make £75 a month for doing vitually nothing and you could earn even more through their affiliate scheme with an extra £5 per referral.

A couple of questions I have. I currently have my blog up and running past few months.

1. When I activate this plugin, will all my content transfer over without any problems?

2. Does this theme include the OIOpublisher?

3. What plugins come with it?

4. Will notification occur if an upgrade is developed and will it be free?

5. Will it work flawlessly with the other plugins?

6. Does it come with some sort of instruction on how to change the add layouts?

7. Does it come with a Newsletter plugin installed?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks.
• Steve · 1 year ago
Sorry, I was talking about the John Cow WP Theme that I am interested in.
